Center back training
Center backs win the ball, protect the space behind and start the attack. The best youth defenders combine body shape, timing and calm passing under pressure.
What we train
Defensive body shape
A side-on stance, staying low and showing attackers away from goal.
Timing the tackle
Knowing when to delay and when to step in, and recovering runs when beaten.
Aerial duels
Attacking the ball with good timing and clearing for height and distance.
Playing out from the back
Receiving on the half-turn, switching play and breaking lines with passes.
