Soccer tryout preparation

Tryouts compress a season of development into a few sessions. The players who stand out are the ones whose touch, weak foot and decisions hold up when they're nervous and tired. That sharpness is built in the weeks before — not the night before.

Start 6–10 weeks out

Enough time to fix real gaps — a weak foot, a heavy first touch, slow decisions — and still arrive fresh, not overtrained.

Train what evaluators watch

First touch under pressure, both feet, 1v1 confidence, scanning before receiving, and how a player responds after a mistake.

Game-speed reps

Drills at walking pace don't transfer. Sessions are built at the tempo evaluators will demand, so the tryout feels familiar.

A plan, not a cram

An Individual Development Plan with goals and homework keeps every week purposeful leading into tryout weekend.

Common questions

When should my child start preparing for soccer tryouts?

Ideally 6–10 weeks before. That window allows real technical improvement without peaking too early. Even 3–4 weeks of focused work helps sharpness and confidence.

What do coaches look for at competitive soccer tryouts?

Beyond athleticism: first touch, comfort on both feet, quick decisions, work rate, and how a player reacts to mistakes. These are all trainable habits.

Can private training help my child make a travel or competitive team?

It targets the individual gaps club practice can't — the weak foot, receiving under pressure, 1v1 play. No one can promise a roster spot, but players arrive sharper and more confident.
